Cumbria Classic Weekend 2013

19th August 2013

The 25th Cumbria Classic Weekend proved to be one of the best yet despite enduring heavy rain for part of the event.

The 25th Cumbria Classic Weekend proved to be one of the best yet. The Rose and Thistle Challenge on the Saturday endured heavy rain for part of the event which started at the Reghed Discovery centre and took the 60 crews on a 140 mile tour into south Cumbria and Lancashire before finishing at Lowther Castle.

Sunday saw the Cumbria Classic & Motor Sport Show at Dalemain Mansion. The weather was much improved with dry and sunny weather welcoming over 600 cars and large crowds.

The organising Wigton Motor Club were celebrating their ninetieth anniversary with a display of competition cars covering that age range from a 1923 Bentley to 1 2013 Ford Fiesta WRC car from M Sport. The Club were actively promoting “Go Motorsport” and ran a grass autotest with passenger rides and also the opportunity for cars owners to have ago themselves. The best time was by Chris Bell of Penrith in a Mini who won an award and free membership to Wigton Motor Club.

There was also a world first in a De Lorean taking part in an autotest!

There was also the largest display of rally Toyotas ever seen in the UK which was organised by Toyota rally expert John Midgley. There were also feature displays of Morris, Imp and Aston Martin.

The Show uses self judging in the classes and then all the award winners are brought to the arena where the owners who then vote for Car of the Show which this year went to the Aston Martin DB5 of M. Riley.

Classics Needed!

15th June 2013

A long established Festival needs Classic cars for their event in July.

I've been contacted by Edina Mullin who helps to organise the Warborough and Shillingford Festival.

This year the festival is from Firday July 12 to Sunday the 14th July. All fun, family entertaining, children activities, dancing carnival etc.....

Edina is looking to get as many Classics as she can to exhibit on the Saturday.

If you can help, or know somone that can, please contact Edina on 07818038230 for further information.

It's all in a good cause. This year the Festival is supporting the Kenya Children’s Centres, which rescue destitute orphan girls and care for them in a safe and loving environment.

Fine weather for the Earls Barton Festival of Transport.

1st June 2013

There was fine weather for all three days of the Earls Barton Festival of Transport, now in it's third year.

Earls Barton Festival of Transport

The Earls Barton Festival now 'incorperates' the Earls Barton Fire and Rescue Show, and it's certainly true that there was a good collection of fire engines on display, both vintage and modern. My particular favourite is the 1950's "Green Goddess" Military Fire Engines, which I still remember giving good service during a Fire Service strike many years ago.

Earls Barton Festival of Transport

The number of Classic cars was relatively small - less then 100 when I was there, complemented by a number of vintage Motorbikes. There was real quality though, with a Glorious 1935 Triumph Gloria, and a lovely Austin Sheerline 125.

The show was not as busy as might have been expected given the fine weather, which at least meant that there was no queuing for food and drink. The Bank Holiday weekend is a competitive time for shows, so perhaps some potential exhibitors and visitors had gone further afield.

Snow Hits outdoor shows

18th January 2013

The Nationwide snows will hit some of the events that are planned for this weekend.

Snowy conditions

Happily for Classic car fans, this weekend features two indoor events: Huddersfield Autojumble, held in the Old Market Building - Huddersfield, and Malvern Classic Car and Bike Autojumble, held at the Three counties Showground in Worcestershire.

Of course, you still have to get there through the snow.

I'm hoping that by Sunday the snow will have been cleared on the main routes, so reaching the shows should not be a problem!
