1966 London Motor Show Video
Little did they know how far and how fast the industry would fall.
Browsing around, I came accross this splendid video of the 1966 London Motor Show.
I thought the Hillman Hunter/Singer Vogue look wonderfully modern for 1966, and the Vauxhall Viva HB was always one of my favourites. Indeed, my second car was a Viva HB which I enjoyed enormously, as it handled pretty well and had a excellent gear-change with a short 'sporty' throw.
I missed out on this optimistic period. as I didn't start visitng the London Motor Show until 1972, the year the Ford Grenada was introduced; the first big UK Ford not entirely designed in the UK, and a sign of things to come.
