More then 50 years ago, the Herald and the Mini are launched.
I love these British Pathe videos of old Motor Shows, the sense of optimism they purvey, plus the genuinely competitive and innovative British cars on show.
The pace of development was very high at this time; Just five years earlier the Standard 8 had been very advanced, though that's hard to imagine now. Already, it was looking dated, despite regular trim and specification updates.
The Herald was a much more modern looking car, with a smart Micholetti styled body, while the Mini was full of clever thinking and innovation.
